Cine stars Vishnuvardhan and Bhanupiya today inaugurated an ultra-modern
birthing suite at Manipal Hospital that combines labour, delivery,
recovery and postpartum in a single, spacious, tastefully appointed
room with home-like environment. The new birthing suite offers expectant
mothers a "family-centered" experience with every need of mother,
baby and their family anticipated and catered to in single room.
In the birthing suite, immediately after the excitement of birth,
the parents can hold, relax and enjoy the newborn as long as they
wish. Cameras and video recorders are allowed to capture the birthing
experience for posterity. Mothers are encouraged to get to know
their babies by rooming in, feeding, bathing and caring for their
infants.
While the suite is extremely comfortable and inviting, within minutes
it can transform into state-of-the-art delivery rooms. Stat-of-the-art
equipment needed for delivery emerges from cabinets, drawers and
even the walls! This reassures expectant mothers that essential
and high-tech medical equipment and healthcare specialists are instantly
accessible.
Mr. R Basil, CEO, Manipal Hospital said, "At Manipal Hospital, we
want the mothers to have the most rewarding and fulfilling birthing
experience and the best possible start for a newborn. The birthing
suite is not just another offer for the expectant mother, we've
considered the needs of the whole family. By introducing birthing
suite, Manipal Hospital pays tribute to today’s woman of substance
and reinforces its commitment to the next generation of Bangaloreans.
"
Ms. Jaya Bhat, Head OBG, Manipal Hospital added, "Today’s women
want to be in charge of every element of their environment and prefer
home-births, but it demands commitment, cooperation, and trust of
all who are involved with the delivery. Over the years, Manipal
Hospital has been recognized to provide a similar environment that
promotes continuous bonding and interaction between expectant mothers,
newborns, and their family. The birthing suite combines home-like
environment with our individualized care for the mothers and their
babies."
For Labour, the suite provides ultra-modern birthing bed that is
adjustable for various stages of labour, delivery and recovery.
Foot supports are provided to support mother’s legs and position
changes are encouraged during labour. After Delivery, mother need
not move to another room and her blood pressure is taken; a bath/shower
and peri-care are given in the suite itself. A light diet and fluids
are offered during Recovery. Special attention is provided to keep
the baby warm and dry. Postpartum Instructions include a baby bath
demonstration and breast feeding instructions by the nurse.
For babies that need additional observation provision is made for
a designated area within the birthing unit. For babies who are born
too soon, or with complex needs, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU), the largest of its kind in Asia with 35 incubators and a
designated Level III nursery, provides state-of-the-art specialized
care by team of skillful paeditricians and caring presence of highly
trained nurses.
Monitoring the baby's condition close to the time of birth is very
critical. Our Fetal Medicine department, the only full-service department
of its kind in India, is available next door on the same floor.
This means the expectant can be comfortable in her room, while specialists
in fetal medicine evaluate the baby's progress.
The service is available at Rs.55,000/- for a normal delivery stay
of four days.
